SUMMARY:2/11/25 Bhutan Travelogue with Dr. Sherry Neuman
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville’s own Dr. Sherry Neuman will share insights and images from her October 2024 trip to Bhutan. Shrouded in mystique\, the tiny Kingdom of Bhutan sits wedged amongst the towering Himalaya mountains. The landscape is cut by deep river valleys and terraced rice fields. This presentation takes us from Bhutan’s capital\, Thimphu\, to remote villages set in beautiful valleys. Discussion will include insight into the culture and government of Bhutan – a prominent stronghold of authentic Himalayan Buddhism. \nPresenter Bio: Dr. Neuman has traveled extensively since retiring from her Infectious Disease practice in\nhospitals in Sacramento\, Reno\, Crescent City\, among others. Her career began in Montana on\nFort Belknap Indian Reservation where\, as one of five medical staff personnel for 4\,000 Native\nAmericans\, she experience first-hand the great need to provide adequate resources to\nunderserved populations. Her passion for travel has taken her across the north of Spain on the\nCamino de Santiago\, hiking in the Swiss\, Italian and French Alps\, as well as trekking the\nSouthwest Ireland peninsulas. Bhutan became a must-visit destination due to its location within\nthe majestic Himalayas and the opportunity to experience the culture and history of this small\nBuddhist country.
