Statement on Wildfires

To our JCC community:
Our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by the horrendous wildfires impacting our valley and other areas in the West. This is a time to lend a helping hand to support family, friends and strangers alike, whether through informal assistance or contributions to the relief efforts that are emerging. The following funds have been set up to collect donations for long-term assistance–please give generously if you can:

United Way of Jackson County Fire Relief Fundunitedwayofjacksoncounty.org/give. Choose “United Way Fire fund.” Or mail a check to United Way, 60 Hawthorne Street, Medford, OR 97504.

Rogue Credit Union’s Southern Oregon Fire Relief Fund: this fund will match up to $50,000 in relief donations for those impacted by the Almeda and Obenchain fires. Donations will go to the Southern Oregon chapter of the American Red Cross. Donations can be made at any Rogue Credit Union Branch, by calling any branch, or online at roguecu.org/community/donate.

There is also a need for items such as food, clothing, and toiletries: https://www.kdrv.com/content/news/Where-to-donate-A-list-of-where-you-can-go-to-donate-to-local-fire-relief-572373111.html?fbclid=IwAR2c2Cqr-NLyFWoZ5JeA-FfnWGRg-clQSLzPaIPY953ischUQUKLxeEduuY and https://ktvl.com/news/local/fire-resources-want-to-help-need-help

All of us standing together, with the strength and compassion that we know is embedded in our collective will, can help our communities recover from this disaster to build anew.

JCC Board and Staff

Opening Announcement

Dear JCC Friends,

This has been a time of challenge and change for everyone, and so many members of our local communities have risen to the task with kindness and resilience. Sights that I find heartening on our daily walks: parents bike-riding in a little train with their kids, folks greeting us with a cheerful “hello,” gardeners busy at work on flower and veggie gardens—and just many more people walking at all hours of the day and evening to take advantage of our beautiful surroundings.

Following the guidance from the Oregon Health Authority and the CDC, we have begun the process of re-opening the Jacksonville Community Center, beginning the week of June 21st we will have staff at the Center.  Check the website for specific dates and times. We are proceeding slowly in resuming indoor activities due to social distancing measures but will be looking for opportunities to offer classes in a safe environment. Your ideas for that are welcomed.

Thank you for supporting and bearing with us during this time—we know that there will be ups and downs in the days ahead, but are confident that as a community we can meet those challenges and emerge better than ever.

Sue Miler

Board President

Volunteers Wanted – Office Help

We would love to have some volunteers to be hosts at the center from 8:30 am-12 pm Monday- Friday.  This would involve answering phone calls, welcoming visitors and giving information about our programs. There may also be a need for organizing files, ordering supplies, and other general office tasks. The hosts would be able to open and close the Center without staff assistance at times when staff is otherwise engaged. Wednesday and Friday volunteers would be especially helpful to set up the morning programs and welcome participants to Tai Chi and Yoga. Please contact Leah at leahh@jacksonvillecommunitycenter.org to find out more.

Volunteers Wanted – Activity Afternoons

We will be designating a regular time once per month for the community to gather at the center on Wednesdays from 12:30 until 3 pm. This will be a time for all ages to play card games, share a skill, knit together, play board games, have discussions, or just get to know each other over a cup of coffee.   We are in need of three generous individuals to assist by helping set up tables and chairs, making coffee, putting tablecloths on the tables, and welcoming people starting at 11:45, and another group of three people to help take the tables and chairs down, fold the tablecloths, and put away all of the coffee supplies around 3pm. Please let us know if you are interested! This would be a service to our participants who would especially love to have some strong muscles to help with the tables and chairs.
