SUMMARY:4/23 - Drought-minded Gardening for the Rogue Valley
DESCRIPTION:Join Bonni Engelhardt\, Landscape Designer of Shooting Star Nursery\, to explore the challenges faced by local gardeners with respect to drought conditions that are likely to be a reality in the Valley this summer and will offer ideas about plantings that can be effective in that environment. Come to get ideas and solutions for the coming seasons! \nBIO: Bonni Engelhardt is a landscape designer at Shooting Star Nursery in Central Point. She initially was a customer there with her own gardening business\, but decided this was the place for her and joined the Shooting Star team in 2008. Bonni literally squeals with delight when unusual plants show up at the nursery – and can’t help collecting her favorites\, like Eryngiums\, Zauschneria\, Hebes and hardy Cacti to name a few. She has also had her writing published in Fine Gardening Magazine.

SUMMARY:4/23 - Klamath Dam-River Restoration Project with Biologist Shari Anderson
DESCRIPTION:Biologist Shari Anderson will discuss the Klamath Dam Removal Project – one of the largest river\nrestoration efforts ever undertaken. Shari will explore the many complexities involved including\ncoordination among dozens of partners\, unique technical and biological challenges\, and the\npractical solutions developed along the way. Drawing on her experience in the Basin\, Shari will\nalso share what we are seeing as natural processes resume\, including early ecological responses\nand emerging management questions. The presentation will look ahead to salmon\nrepopulation in the Upper Basin – what we’re learning\, the role of hatcheries\, and the\nchallenges that remain as partners work toward long-term recovery. \nBIO: Shari Anderson grew up in the Rogue Valley and holds a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Science\nfrom Oregon State University and an M.S. in Fisheries Science from Cal Poly Humboldt. She\nspent the first 20 years of her career as a federal fisheries biologist\, primarily with NOAA\n(National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association) Fisheries\, where she studied coho salmon in the\nKlamath River and played a key regulatory role in the historic Klamath Dam Removal Project.\nToday\, Shari is the principal of her consulting firm\, Lazuli Eco\, where she continues to work\nthroughout the Klamath Basin—monitoring habitat recovery\, restoring habitat on private lands\,\nand supporting salmon reintroduction into newly reconnected reaches of the river. She lives in\nJacksonville with her two young boys.
