SUMMARY:Adult Introduction to Yoga Nidra Experience: Golden Leaves\, Open Heart
DESCRIPTION:This special FREE class is designed specifically for adults in celebration of Autumn\, to reflect on personal goals and cultivate a sense of abundance and happiness. Join us in this gentle guided meditation of self-discovery. \nExperience deep relaxation through a soothing Yoga Nidra meditation that takes you on a visual journey into the heart of the woodlands. Utilize powerful visualization techniques to imagine your goals blossoming like vibrant colors of Jacksonville Woodland Autumn leaves. This is a chance to connect with your inner self and visualize the happiness and abundance you seek. \nDuring the practice of Yoga Nidra\, the brain transitions from an active state of beta waves to emitting delta waves\, mimicking the brain activity during deep restful sleep. This practice involves a progressive movement of awareness as you scan through different parts of the body\, promoting a sense of physical\, emotional\, and mental relaxation. \nWhat to Bring \n– A yoga mat or comfortable surface to lie down \n– A cozy blanket or pillow for added comfort \n– An open heart and mind\, ready to embrace the magic of the season \nThis class is suitable for all levels\, and no prior yoga experience is required. \nBio: Darby Briar is a Certified Yoga Nidra Teacher of Bihar School of Yoga\, Bali\, Indonesia. She applies traditional and science based approached to the practice\, she skillfully guides students through the experience.

SUMMARY:Book Talk: From Thorns to Blossoms - A Japanese American Family in War and Peace
DESCRIPTION:This talk features author Mitzi Loftus\, a memoirist who has written of her family’s experience with imprisonment during WWII at the Tulelake internment camp\, and the subsequent anti-Japanese sentiment following the war’s end. Approximately 120\,000 Japanese-Americans\, including adults and children\, were incarcerated between 1942 and 1945\, merely on the basis of their ancestry. Few are still living who can tell about their personal history in these places surrounded by barbed wife fences and armed guards. Lotus’ story is one of resilience\, perseverance and self-awareness through very challenging circumstances. \nBio: Mitzi (Mitsuko) Loftus was born in Hood River\, Oregon where her family cultivated a fruit orchard. Her family was imprisoned in Tulelake\, California during WWII. Following their release\, the family members experienced ostracization when they returned home. Despite these challenges\, Loftus became valedictorian of her high school class\, attended the University of Oregon\, and became an English and French teacher at the secondary level. She earned a Fulbright scholarship to teach in Japan\, where she was able to reconnect to her Japanese heritage. Her purpose is to share her family’s experience so that this important history is not forgotten. “I want my descendants\, my second\, third\, fourth\, fifth generation folks\, to know how very special my parents were and that they gave me the strength and positivity that I have.”

SUMMARY:Writer's Prompt Series 10/7/24 (3 in series) - Walk-ins welcome
DESCRIPTION:This series is designed to help local authors and hobby writers stay motivated in their craft and feel inspired to write new works. This class will focus on generating new work in short time periods and will provide a space for writers to learn from each other and a professional editor. Additionally\, it will provide a creative and open space to write without judgement. Despite writing often being seen as a solitary craft\, finding a community of authors\, editors\, and readers is vital to helping aspiring authors develop and grow on their journey. This is true for both accomplished\npublished authors and those who are just starting to put pen to paper. \nCurriculum: Each session\, I will provide two prompts for participants to write from. These prompts could consist of one word\, a short scene to continue writing\, a mood to consider\, or a\nsituation. \nStructure: Each session will consist of two twenty-minute writing blocks. Each block will help people learn the finer points of storytelling on paper. \nInstructor Bio: Instructor Bio: Ciera “Scout” Cox is a freelance editor holding an MA in English from Arizona State University. Prior to launching her freelance business focused on uplifting self-published works\, she worked as a copyeditor at Blackstone Publishing. Scout has edited nearly one hundred books so far in her career. Her portfolio includes a number of New York Times and USA Today bestsellers by notable authors including Marshall Karp\, Catherine Ryan Howard\, and Sara Foster.
