SUMMARY:2/10 Psychedelic Medicine in Oregon: Healing depression\, anxiety and trauma
DESCRIPTION:Learn how new psychedelic medicine treatments are working and what their limitations are during this introductory talk with Naturopathic Physician Ian Luepker. From a facilitator’s perspective\, Dr. Luepker will discuss the Oregon law and healing potential of this new (yet ancient) approach to mental health.\n\nOregon is this first state to legalize psilocybin within a healing framework. When a psychedelic is taken with the proper preparation\, intention\, facilitation\, and therapeutic environment\, people can use the experience to gain new insights that can catalyze healing and recovery. The psychedelic allows feelings such as self-compassion\, forgiveness\, understanding\, and self-acceptance to surface that can be powerful antidotes to shame\, guilt\, anger\, depression\, anxiety\,  isolation\, and disconnection that they sometimes find difficult to discuss in therapy and might not respond to typical anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications.\n\nDr. Ian Luepker is a naturopath and has been in private practice for 23 years\, and worked on psychiatric units for 12 years. He approaches health and well-being from a holistic perspective by recognizing the complex interplay between mental\, emotional\, physical\, social and spiritual suffering. By listening to his patients with compassion\, care and respect\, he takes a collaborative\, preventive and integrative approach to supporting their self-led innate healing capacity. His goal is to address both symptoms and their underlying root cause. He hopes to bring awareness of the new treatment options to a wider audience.
